Croeso I Ysgol Gynradd Dyfnant/ WElcome to dunvant primary school.
Dunvant Primary School is a primary school, for children aged three to eleven, situated in the village of Dunvant on the outskirts of Swansea. It was opened in September 2005 following the amalgamation of the infant and junior school.
We have 12 mainstream classes from nursery to Year 6 and 2 specialist teaching classes for pupils with ASD.
The school is situated on a large site with extensive grounds, boasting developed woodland, fields, adventure playgrounds a series of separate buildings, one of which is Victorian, several built shortly after World War 2 and a more modern building that was constructed in the 1970s which has had an extension added.
Nursery children are admitted to the school on the first Tuesday of the month after their third birthday. Pupils begin full-time education at the start of the academic year during which they will be five. This is known as Reception.
Our school values every child and will work to ensure that each child feels proud of who they are and of their achievements. Within this supportive ethos, we will provide a broad, balanced, enriched and thinking curriculum for all our children. We aim to celebrate successes in all areas of school life, academic or not; motivating the children to become lifelong learners. Each child will be given every opportunity and challenge to achieve their full potential in a happy, secure, family atmosphere and stimulating, vibrant, inclusive environment. We will support each child in meeting their challenges and strive to promote independent learning by providing an environment in which children can learn from their mistakes and build on successes. Each individual’s self esteem is recognised as being at the heart of the learning process.
We have a welcoming, open ethos where pupils, staff, parents and governors are valued and respected. This is due to the dedication and commitment of the whole school community of staff, pupils, parents and Governors who have worked together in partnership to continue to improve standards in so many aspects of life in the school.
We aim to provide first-hand experience of learning outside the classroom to help make subjects more vivid and interesting for pupils and enhance their understanding. We welcome all adults and children and ensure that everyone has equal access to the school and the learning experiences we strive to offer. We aim to be the lead learner in the community, offering outstanding opportunities to maximise the learning potentials of pupils, ensuring excellent teaching and learning strategies are used to have the greatest impact on learning.
